Gorilla Trekking
No Uganda safari is complete without a gorilla trek. Standing just meters from a wild mountain gorilla family — watching a silverback beat his chest, infants tumbling through the undergrowth, and mothers nursing young — ranks among the most profound wildlife encounters available to travelers anywhere in the world. Uganda offers treks at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, with Bwindi hosting the majority of habituated families.
Treks can range from 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on where the gorilla family has positioned itself. Guides and trackers are highly trained, and the experience is managed to minimize disturbance to the gorillas. Visitors must be 15 years or older, and anyone showing cold or flu symptoms is asked not to participate, as gorillas are highly susceptible to human respiratory diseases.

Bwindi Forest National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Uganda's most celebrated wildlife destination — and for good reason. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ancient rainforest in southwestern Uganda is home to approximately 459 mountain gorillas, representing nearly half of the global population. Murchison Falls National Park
Uganda's largest national park at 3,840 km², Murchison Falls National Park is dominated by the mighty Nile River, which forces its way through a 7-meter-wide gorge in a thunderous display of raw power. Kibale forest National Park
Kibale National Park, in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, is the world's premier destination for chimpanzee tracking. The park protects Uganda's largest and most accessible chimpanzee community — approximately 1,500 individuals spread across 795 km² of tropical rainforest. Habituated groups allow visitors to observe chimps behaving naturally: foraging, socializing, playing, and vocalizing in extraordinary ways.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Uganda's smallest national park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, sits in the Virunga volcanic mountain chain along the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC. The park protects three of the eight Virunga volcanoes: Mount Muhabura (4,127 m), Mount Gahinga (3,474 m), and Mount Sabyinyo (3,645 m). Although primarily known for gorilla trekking, the park also offers the rare opportunity to track the endangered golden monkey — a charismatic primate found only in the Virunga bamboo forests.
